Snorkeling in the Great Barrier Reef is now checked off my Bucket List! Breathtaking!
It took an hour and a half on a high speed catamaran to get out to the platform where we were going to spend the entire day. This platform was just one of many companies out in the Reef that offer these all day adventures. We had snorkeling, scuba diving, glass bottom boats, a helicopter and a submarine with viewing windows.
It was pretty choppy out there today so everybody who was snorkeling had to wear a life vest. We also had to wear a sheer bodysuit, a lot thinner than a wetsuit, because we were swimming with stinging jellyfish and it would protect us. Nobody ever wants to get stung by one of those suckers.
The highlight of the day was Wally. If you look below, you will see a pic that I took of a of a little girl swimming with Wally. It was a brochure photo! He is this gigantic beautiful blue fish that would come up to everyone who was daring enough to get into the water and he wanted a belly rub just like a dog. He was also incredibly territorial. If another large fish came around while he was getting rubbed he would chase them off. He was gorgeous.
Amazing, isn’t it! I have an awful photo of myself somewhere getting into my jellyfish suit there 15+ years ago.
